Migrant Worker Housing Redesign

Architecture, Modular Design.

I designed a container-based housing concept for migrant construction workers in Nanjing, China, addressing the lack of communal and religious facilities in existing dormitory sites. Based on on-site research and worker interviews, I developed a modular prayer facility and communal lounge tailored to Islamic practices, alongside reworked container units with expanded interiors and shared outdoor spaces.

I explored the massing through 30+ iterative sketch studies before finalizing the composition, and translated the rhythm of the five daily prayers into an abstract stacked-block concept, producing two sculptural tower outcomes that reinterpret the shipping container as both spiritual and social infrastructure.
